International Conference on Surgical Nutrition (ICSN) 2019 was held on Nov 22nd -23rd at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, organized by the Indian Association of Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN) Bengaluru, and co-hosted by The Surgery Department of Ramaiah Medical College.
Prof. Dr. Higashiguchi who is the Chairman of the Board of trustees for the Japanese (Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition) PEN society was the Chief Guest of the conference. He addressed the gathering on ERAS (Enhanced recovery after surgery) protocol and also delivered a lecture on Protein in critical care.
The conference was co-hosted by the Dept. of Surgery of MS Ramaiah and was attended by 300 delegates including doctors and dietitians from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The topics covered were Nutrition in pre and post op surgical patients including oncology, cardiac transplant, parenteral Nutrition, poly trauma and also in special surgical settings.
There was an overwhelming response to the “Dysphagia Workshop” which was titled “Bridging the Gap between Speech Language Pathologists and Dietitians for Managing Dysphagia”. An e booklet was released which highlighted the nutritional interventions needed to tackle swallowing difficulty in stroke and Head & Neck cancer.
The confeence offered a great opportunity for learning about the importance of Nutrition in Surgical patients. Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN) has successfully brought clinical dietitians and doctors in the same platform to learn about the importance of Nutrition. Dr. Harish Ambekar Hon. President IAPEN Bangalore Chapter, Ms. Sreemathy Venkatraman Organizing Secretary ICSN 2019 and the office bearers Ms. Suneetha Rao, Ms. Sheetal Joshi, Ms. Ranjani Raman were the host for the entire conference.
