Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), based in Mumbai, supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), has announced an advanced national analytical facility for nutrition and metabolism research in Hyderabad .

Through the facility, a platform will be made available to researchers for clinical and preclinical research in integrating in-depth methods into nutrition and metabolism research.

According to Prof Ullas Kolthur from TIFR, India has high incidence of malnutrition along with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. To gain a better understanding of the causes behind it, there is an urgent need to enable and bring together basic biologists and clinical researchers to increase the impact of research on nutrition and metabolism.

The facility will function under the ambit of ARUMDA (Advanced Research Unit on Metabolism, Development & Aging).

Together with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), TIFR has also collaborated with CMC-Vellore, St. John’s Research Institute, IISER-Pune, IIT-Mandi and other institutions for this initiative.
